So its now May 2009 - anyone asked where Bill Stettler is working these days? I think the answer to that question answers the bigger question of the health of the CP steam program....

A couple of quick points:

a: This post isn't based on "internet rumors." In fact, I wasn't aware of any of the rumors when I posted this. I have a lot of very specific, credible information here that I'm not posting, and in fact several others have been in a position to hear this directly as well.

b: CPR's (very carefully worded) response is that the report is "inaccurate," and perhaps some parts of it may be. What they didn't say is that it's false, or specify which part is inaccurate.

c: The source providing the information remains steadfast that operating positions have been eliminated. Again, I'm not posting details, for reasons that will become clear later, but the information I have is extremely detailed, coherent, and credible. As I learn more (and can post it with no risk of negative impact on people) I'll update or write a new post.

CALGARY, Alta. - Internet-based rumors that Canadian Pacific plans to scrap its steam program are "inaccurate," CP spokesman Mike LoVecchio told TRAINS News Wire today. "For the record, if we were ever to announce something like that, it would be done via news release."

Indeed, News Wire debunked a similar rumor on July 31, originating at the Web site CordovaStation.ca. Since that time, CP "Hudson" No. 2816 crossed western Canada making public excursions.

"I know how much people adore the 2816; I'm with them," LoVecchio said. "Every time the locomotive gets parked for more than a month, the rumors start flying. It's a rumor, and it's inaccurate."

Aw c'mon, are you telling all of us that you, CP, will drop your major fund raiser, the Holiday Trains after the 2008 runs? With all the freight you run, isn't there any room left to help those in need? Please!

Completely shut down for good or put on hiatus while CP deals with the economic downturn?
